Nokia N81 8GB review
G radually more mobile phones with a large internal memory are being added to the assortment of various mobile phone manufacturers. Nokia have joined the club and have put several mobile phones on the market that feature a large internal memory. Devices with this kind of storage capacity are for example; Apple iPhone, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N96 and the Nokia N81 8GB. The Nokia N81 8GB truly is a multimedia device. The Nokia N81 8GB makes music, games and movies come alive. To emphasize the fact that the target group of the Nokia N81 8GB consists of multimedia enthusiasts, Nokia have applied 'dedicated multimedia keys' to the N81 8GB. Some disadvantages we notice even from looking at the specifications are: average camera, no HSDPA and the weight. As you probably know, there are two Nokia N81 models on the market; an 8GB model and a standard one with a memory card slot. We had the chance to review the Nokia N81 8GB. How well the Nokia N81 8GB did in practice can be read in our N81 multimedia phone review

SONY’S NEW CYBER-SHOT W-SERIES CAMERAS BRING ADDED PERFORMANCE AND EYE-CATCHING DESIGN
ony has re-engineered its W-series of top-performing Cyber-shot® digital still cameras to embody the virtues of a traditional camera style and satisfy modern tastes for sleek, compact design.
In addition to sporting eye-level viewfinders in the fashion of traditional cameras, the new DSC-W50 and DSC-W30 models have large LCD screens and are significantly more compact than previous W-series models.
Both new cameras offer six-megapixel image resolution for high-quality prints, high-light sensitivity for fast-action shooting and more natural-looking pictures in low-light conditions, precision Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lenses, and MPEG1 movie recording.
Available in silver, the DSC-W50 model features a 2.5-inch, easy-to-view LCD screen wrapped in a metal-alloy body with sophisticated etching and details. The DSC-W30 model also comes in silver with a two-inch LCD.
“These new models will be attractive to people who prefer the look and feel of a traditional camera, but without the bulk,” said James Neal, director of digital imaging products at Sony Electronics. “We’ve also increased the light sensitivity, which minimizes the need for flash photography, and improved the cameras’ user interface for better photography results and overall camera experience.”
No More Guessing What those Icons Mean
Anyone who has ever found menu icons on a digital still camera mysterious will appreciate the new function guide on the latest W-series models. When menu icons are selected, such as a specific shooting function or scene mode, a text explanation is displayed on the LCD making it easier to take a great shot. This function guide can be turned off once the user becomes more familiar with the camera.
Built for Better Performance
Both new models include high light-sensitivity settings up to ISO 1000, which allow for shooting at higher shutter speeds to capture fast-moving subjects with less blur. With higher light sensitivity at your fingertips, you can shoot in available light without a flash for more naturally-exposed, “true-to-life” pictures. With Sony’s Clear RAW ™ imaging technology, you can up the camera’s sensitivity without dramatically increasing picture noise, which makes pictures look blurry and grainy.
Sony’s ultra-fast Real Imaging Processor™ circuit delivers quick start-up, fast shot-to-shot times, and long battery life -- up to 400 shots on a single charge for the DSC-W30 model. It also speeds up the cameras’ sophisticated auto-exposure and multi-point, auto-focus features so that users get the picture right the first time.
Both cameras have 32MB of internal memory, which can be expanded further with an optional Memory Stick Duo™ media card or Memory Stick PRO Duo™ card, now offered in capacities up to two gigabytes.
Make the Most of High-Resolution Images through Prints
You can make high-quality prints by simply connecting these models to a Sony DPP-FP50 digital photo printer. You can even create postcards or calendars using the printer’s supplied software.
With Sony’s ImageStation® online photo service, you can expand your options to print tens or even hundreds of pictures, create online photo and video albums, or make customized gifts such as photo books and calendars.
The Cyber-shot DSC-W50 will be available in early March for about $250, and the DSC-W30 is available this month for about $230. Bundled accessories include rechargeable Lithium ion batteries (NP-BG1), charger (BC-CSG), USB and AV output cables, and Cyber-shot viewer software. Options include a lithium ion battery (NP-BG1) for about $50, a travel charger (BC-TRG) for about $60, a sports pack (SPK-WA) for about $100, and a 30mm lens/filter adapter (VAD-WB) for about $30.
Both models can be purchased at Sonystyle.com, at Sony Style® retail stores (www.sonystyle.com/retail), and at authorized dealers nationwide. Pre-orders begin today at http://www.sony.com/w30 and http://www.sony.com/w50

Sony Cyber-shot H5 Review
The Cyber-shot DSC-H1 was Sony's first foray into the increasingly crowded compact, image stabilized 'super zoom' market, and it was a very successful one too. The DSC-H5 (along with little brother the DSC-H2) arrived almost exactly a year later in February 2006. The H5 is notable as the first 'big zoom' compact camera to feature a 7 megapixel sensor (a new Sony 1/2.5" CCD), and for its huge 3.0" screen. Otherwise the specification is pretty much the same as the H2, itself a fairly subtle update to the original H1 - no bad thing given the very high standards set by that model. Let's start with the headline features:
7.2 million effective pixels
36-432mm equivalent (12x optical) F2.8-3.7 Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar zoom lens
Super Steady Shot optical image stabilization
Wide ISO 80-1000 range
Clear RAW™ noise reduction technology
3.0” LCD (230,000 pixels) & 0.2" (200,000 pixel) Electronic viewfinder
Full photographic control
Real Imaging Processor & 14-bit DXP A/D Conversion
Optional wide and tele lens converters
Scene selection (7 modes)
Histogram indication
32MB internal memory, plus a Memory Stick/PRO Duo slot

Cyber-shot DSC-H9 vs DSC-H7
we saw with the previous generation the DSC-H9 has a 'little brother', the DSC-H7. Basically a slightly cut down, cheaper version of the H9, the differences are actually fairly minimal - for most users the screen will be the key.
H9 has a larger (3.0 inch), higher-resolution tilting screen (H7: 2.5-inch non-articulated)
H9 has external buttons for metering and continuous shooting modes, H7 doesn't
H9 is around 32g (1.1 oz) heavier
H9 has NightShot function, H7 doesn't.

SONY PROMOTES ‘WORRY-FREE’ PHOTOGRAPHY WITH NEW CYBER-SHOT CAMERA LINE-UP
Benefits of Real Imaging Processor Find Their Way to Entire Line-up
LAS VEGAS (PMA 2004, Booth M30), Feb. 11, 2004 — Amid the flurry of high-tech/high-end digital cameras introduced at the annual digital imaging trade show, Sony demonstrates its keen sense of consumer needs with the introduction of its new Cyber-shot® compact P- and basic P-series cameras, designed for taking great pictures simply.
So that the cameras’ settings can be quickly determined behind-the-scenes, Sony incorporated its new Real Imaging Processor™ circuit on the new Cyber-shot DSC-P100, -P93,
-P73 and -P41 cameras. Measured in fast start-up and shot-to-shot times rather than megahertz, key benefits of the processor translate into making the Cyber-shot cameras always ready to great pictures. All cameras will be available this May.
“Throughout the coming years, we’ll see a greater number of people trying out a digital camera for the first time, and we’re making sure that Cyber-shot cameras improve upon their film camera experience,” said Greg Young, Sony Electronics’ director of digital camera marketing.
Cyber-shot P100 Camera: Compact and Full Featured
Don’t let its size fool you. The Cyber-shot compact P100 digital camera is a stylish, pocket-size camera with specifications typically found only on more full-sized, high-end five-megapixel cameras. At about one-inch thin, it is easy to hold and use.
For the first time in a Cyber-shot P-series camera, Sony is offering a Carl Zeiss® Vario Tessar® 3X optical zoom lens to complement the high resolution for great picture clarity. However, the advancements of this camera lie beyond these basic specifications.
So that pictures are captured in-focus with the proper lighting exposure, the camera enlists the aid of a smart auto-focusing and exposure system—meaning that even if the subject is off-center and in a difficult lighting situation, the camera can automatically make the necessary adjustments. Additionally, six preset scene modes are available so that the user can quickly select the best setting for the shooting conditions.
For those wanting greater flexibility, the Cyber-shot P100 camera also features manual flash and exposure settings, and it accepts the VAD-PHB lens adaptor bracket allowing use of telephoto and wide angle conversion lenses.
Available in three striking colors (red, blue and silver), the stylish P100 camera will sell for an estimated $400. A 32MB Memory Stick® memory card, InfoLithium™ battery and AC adapter are included.
Cyber-shot Station: The Perfect Companion
Finally there’s a better place to put the digital camera other than a desk or table drawer. Designed to reside next to a TV or PC, the new Cyber-shot Station™ CSS-PHA camera accessory, available in May for about $80, accommodates the Cyber-shot DSC-P100 camera for playing back slideshows on a TV, while charging the camera’s batteries.
The bundled infrared remote controller intelligently commands the docked camera via the Cyber-shot station to toggle between captured videos and still pictures. And when connected to a PictBridge™ interface compatible printer such as the new Sony PictureStation® DPP-EX50 digital photo printer, printing a specific image is easy as a press of the remote controller’s button.
Cyber-shot Basic P-series: The Only Basic Feature is the Price
Intelligent enough to capture great pictures, but simple enough for the first-time digital camera user, Sony’s line of P-series point-and-shoot cameras help to take the guess work out of digital photography. Like their fully-featured sibling, the P100, the P41, P73 and P93 cameras offer intelligent auto-focus and auto-exposure systems.
Unlike other cameras in this category, the new P-series cameras seem to sip battery power. Thanks in large part to the Real Imaging Processor circuit, the cameras are able to take up to 400 shots between charging.
Additionally, the new processor enables features such as burst mode. The DSC-P41 and -P73 models capture 4 shots at 1.3 fps, while the DSC-P93 camera captures 9 shots at 1.2 fps. And with an optional high speed Memory Stick PRO™ media card, all three cameras can capture video clips in TV quality resolution (VGA) and motion (30fps).
While both the DSC-P41 and -P73 models come with four megapixels of resolution, the latter features a 3X optical zoom lens. Users looking for more will find the P93 model’s five-megapixel 3X optical zoom lens accommodates their needs nicely.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W200 introduction
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W200 is a 12.1 Megapixel compact with a 3x zoom lens and optical stabilisation. Launched in February 2007 as part of an update across Sony’s W-series, it shares the title of highest resolution compact with Panasonic’s Lumix FX100.
Along with the lower resolution W80 and W90 models, the W200 sports an optical viewfinder in addition to a 2.5in screen – something of a rarity in today’s compacts. The W200 also features a reasonable degree of manual control and a surprisingly wide variety of optional accessories including a component video cable for HDTV slideshows and lens converters to widen or lengthen the basic 35-105mm equivalent range.
When Sony announced the Cyber-shot W200 though, you could almost hear a collective groan from reviewers and savvy buyers alike. We’ve all seen the image quality of compacts decrease in recent generations with noise levels becoming a serious problem as manufacturers continue to squeeze more pixels onto the limited real estate of compact sensors. It seems numbers still sell, and for digital cameras that means ever-increasing resolutions, even if it’s at the cost of compromising other aspects.
So along comes the first 12 Megapixel compact and we’d forgive you for expecting the worst – we certainly did. Surely after what we’ve seen at the 7 to 10 Megapixel level, the W200 doesn’t stand a chance – and yet as we discovered in this review, the quality can actually be a lot better than you’d think. Over the following pages you’ll see it compared to rivals with 6 to 10 Megapixels and you may be pleasantly surprised by the results. Not all of them admittedly, but certainly by some.
Has Sony performed a miracle and against the odds delivered respectable output from a 12 Megapixel compact, or is it merely a brave attempt which has just turned out better than expected? Find out in our Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W200 review, and as always to see a demonstration of its key features, check out our Sony W200 video tour.
